Peter Maurer
Peter Maurer has been president of the ICRC since 2012. He was appointed secretary of state for foreign affairs in Switzerland in 2010. In2009, the UN General Assembly elected him to chair the Fifth Committee in charge of administrative and budgetary affairs, and he was also elected chair of the Burundi configuration of the UN Peacebuilding Commission. He previously served as Switzerland’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, and head of the human security division in the political directorate of the Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs, among other posts.
