Lidia Arthur Brito
Lidia Arthur Brito was appointed UNESCO assistant director-general for natural sciences in November 2023. She joined UNESCO in 2009 as director for science policy and sustainable development, and later served as regional director for sciences in Latin America and the Caribbean region, and director of the UNESCO Multisectoral Regional Office for Southern Africa in Zimbabwe and UNESCO Representative for Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa and Zambia. She previously held senior positions in Mozambique including head of the forestry department and vice-rector for academic affairs of Eduardo Mondlane University, and minister for higher education, science and technology.
